With special minimal configuration, a MikroTik RB4011 can be deployed in Bridge Mode on a subscriber's premises. IT will have access to all features in the Care Portal. To deploy an RB4011 in Bridge Mode, follow the steps in this guide.
Provision the RB4011 using the Minim Installer
- Using the Minim Installer, you easily configure the RB4011 into Bridge Mode. If you're unfamiliar with how to use the Minim Installer to provision a MikroTik router, please see our documentation on how to use the application.
- Since the RB4011 will likely be in a factory-default state, plug an ethernet cable into
ether1
and connect the other end to the internet. Connect another cable between the RB4011 and your computer. - Using the Minim Installer for a bridged RB4011 differs from traditional use as you don't have to select which port you'd like to use as the WAN port, and you don't have to select a wireless interface.
Make sure to read the warning messages before flashing. The warnings in the Minim installer state that:
-
- Bridge mode is currently only supported for the MikroTik RB4011
- To run the Minim Installer again on a router flashed into Bridge Mode, it must first be factory reset using WinBox, the Care Portal Inventory Page, or via SSH.
- The computer running the Minim Installer must have a second internet connection, besides the one through the RB4011, to verify that the router comes online in the Minim Care Portal after provisioning using the Minim Installer
- All RB4011s however, with or without wireless interfaces, are fully supported. However, if the RB4011 has wireless interfaces, they'll be disabled.
- Bridge mode is currently only supported for the MikroTik RB4011
Deployment Diagram
The RB4011 should be installed in the subscriber's home between the gateway router and managed devices. The gateway unit does not need to be a Minim-enabled router.
Important: the RB4011 has two 5-port switches built in, for a total of 10 ethernet ports. Devices, whether they're on the default VLAN or have their traffic tagged, must be plugged into the opposite 5-port switch than what's connected to the internet. In our example below, we have devices connected to the left switch (ports 1-5) and the right switch is connected to the internet (port 10).

Support for VLAN traffic
The Minim platform automatically picks up device traffic that's tagged with any VLAN ID.
