What you'll need
- A computer with an ethernet port for connecting to the router you’d like to install Minim on. Note that many laptops no longer have ethernet ports, so you may need a peripheral adapter.
- Two ethernet cables
- Internet connection through a router other than the MikroTik that will be flashed. Any additional connection via WiFi or ethernet to your office’s LAN should do.
Preparation: Hardware Configuration
To begin, your MikroTik must be configured with an IP address of 192.168.88.1
. Occasionally, MikroTik routers (typically higher-end routers) are not configured this way out of the box.
To check the IP address configuration, first make sure your MikroTik is plugged into power. Next, plug one end of an ethernet cable to any of the MikroTik's LAN ports. Plug the other end of the cable into your computer. Open a web browser and type 192.168.88.1
into the address bar; press enter.

If the RouterOS Quick Set page loads, then the router is configured and ready to have Minim installed.

- Note: If you have more than 1 MikroTik on your LAN during this step, check to make sure you’re connected to the right MikroTik device by confirming that the MAC address in the Quick Set page is identical to the MAC address printed on the router.
If your router is not configured, please use WinBox to configure the router for address 192.168.88.1
Connect the MikroTik to your computer
To begin Minim Installation, you'll need to connect the MikroTik device to your computer via ethernet cable or by joining the MikroTik’s wireless network. Please note that during the installation process, the WAN port will be configured.

- Plug an ethernet cable into your computer and plug the other end into any of the LAN ports of your MikroTik Router. By default, ports 2 and greater are LAN ports, and port 1 is the WAN port.
- Plug an ethernet cable into the desired router WAN port on one end, and the gateway to the internet (e.g. a cable modem) on the other. Note that the final WAN port will be the ethernet port you select during installation: either Port 1, or the last ethernet port on the router.

Installation with the Minim Installer
Step 1: Select an Installation Configuration
Minim supports several MikroTik configurations including “DCHP Client,” “PPPoE,” and “Static IP.” The configuration you choose is dependent on the customer’s installation.
(Current version 2.0.4)

DHCP Client
The MikroTik router will get an IP address on the WAN side from a DHCP server in front of it.
PPPoE
An existing PPPoE server exists in front of the MikroTik to enable PPPoE communication.
Static IP
The MikroTik router will have a static IP address on the WAN side.
Step 2: Select the desired WAN Port
You have two options for WAN configuration. The Minim Installer can configure the MikroTik’s WAN port as either the first ethernet port or the last ethernet port. Note that the DHCP client and all connections to the internet will run through whichever WAN port you select.

Ethernet Port 1
This configuration matches what a MikroTik router is typically configured with. The ethernet cable connecting the MikroTik router to the internet should be plugged into Port 1.
Last Ethernet Port (PoE)
Selecting the last ethernet port as the WAN port causes the highest-numbered ethernet port to be used. On higher-end Mikrotik routers, this is also the PoE port. This configuration allows the router to power another PoE device, such as a CPE radio, through the WAN port.
Step 3: Set Installation Variables
Some installation configurations (notably PPPoE and Static IP configurations) will require some input before flashing.

For those with experience in RouterOS scripting
Please enter these values exactly as you'd like them to appear on the router - do not wrap the value in quotes, as the Minim Installer ensures valid RouterOS formatting before the MikroTik router. For example:
- MikroTik would show up as a string on the router "Mikrotik" (correct)
- “MikroTik” would show up as a string on the router “\"Mikrotik\”" (incorrect)
Step 4: Install Minim
After the configuration process above is complete, click “Flash and Save” to begin the flash process. After a few minutes, the Minim Installer will detect that the router has been configured and come back online.
At this juncture, you can activate the customer’s router in the Minim Care Portal. The Minim Cloud will provision the router, and it will come online within two minutes.
For the router to appear as “online” in the Care Portal, the WAN port you selected in Step 2 must be connected to the internet.

Step 5: Enjoy your MikroTik on Minim!
Important note: The router’s subnet must not be the same as the default MikroTik subnet of 192.168.88.0/24 - if your gateway’s subnet overlaps with the default MikroTik subnet, settings must be changed on the gateway in order to proceed with the Minim Installer. If your gateway is a MikroTik router, you can change these settings in WebFig or WinBox in the IP DHCP Server Networks tab.
