Motorola MH7022s come in pre-meshed pairs with one Router and one Satellite. When the pre-configured Satellite comes online it will automatically "look" for the Router it has been pre-paired with.
ISPs and operators have the option of purchasing the MH7022s as the pre-meshed pairs or as two units configured in router-mode. Below are two non-standard ways to utilize MH7021 Routers and Satellites.
Reconfiguring a Router to be a Satellite
Routers can be used universally as both a gateway and an extender (or wireless access point). At this time, Routers can only be reconfigured as Satellites by way of the Minim App.
Before beginning the process, please confirm the MAC address of the unit is currently in the Inventory. If the MAC is assigned to a LAN, be sure to return it to inventory.
Next, follow the process outlined in this guide to add the Router unit to the existing LAN. If needed, you can add the email used to access the Care Portal to the existing LAN as a mobile user.
The app will require you to scan the QR code of the Router. The unit will automatically be reconfigured to act as a Satellite and mesh it with the pre-existing Router. Once the Satellite is correctly meshed, it will appear as online in the Care Portal and the M should be illuminated with a solid green light.
Pairing a Satellite with a different Router
Satellites can only be used as extenders (or wireless access points). There are two methods of pairing a Satellite with a Router it was not previously paired with - Care Portal and Minim App.
Care Portal method (manual)
You can mesh a Satellite to a Router using the Care Portal. In this case, the Satellite would not have been previously paired the Router. If you are trying to add a Satellite to a LAN that came pre-meshed with the Router, you can follow this guide and skip to step one 4.
To introduce a new Satellite to a Router, please follow the below steps.
-
-
-
Navigate back to the customer page with the Router enabled.
-
Under the Access Points section, you will see a plus sign. Click on it. A pop-up will appear.
-
In the MAC Address field, type the MAC address that is on the back of the Satellite. You can name the access point to help with identifying it.
-
When finished, click on the Add to LAN button.
-
Plug the Satellite into power. You should see the M illuminate with a blinking green light.
- Plug an ethernet cable from the Satellite's WAN/LAN port to the Router's LAN port.
- The M should go from blink green to blinking blue to a solid green. Confirm the Satellite shows online in the Care Portal.
Please note, the Satellite may show online in the Care Portal before the M becomes solid green. Leave the ethernet connected until the M is solid green. - Unplug the ethernet cable going between the two units.
- Monitor the status of the Satellite from the Care Portal for 1 - 2 minutes to confirm the unit stays online.
-
-
The new Satellite is now meshed to the Router. The label on the back of the Satellite showing the SSID and password will not longer be valid. The Satellite will mirror the SSID and password being broadcasted by the Router.
Minim App (automated)
Before beginning the process, please confirm the MAC address of the unit is currently in the Inventory. If the MAC is assigned to a LAN, be sure to return it to inventory.
Next, follow the process outlined in this guide to add the Satellite unit to the existing LAN. If needed, you can add the email used to access the Care Portal to the existing LAN as a mobile user.
The app will require you to scan the QR code of the Satellite and it will automatically mesh it with the Router. Once the Satellite it correctly meshed, it will appear as online in the Care Portal and the M should be illuminated with a solid green light.
